My Child Care Philosophy
Children need to feel safe and secure, and that they are an important part of the family - that includes their daycare family! I work closely with my daycare families so the children know we are all on the same team. I encourage the children to be independent, to develop their individual personalities, interests and style so they gain confidence and self-importance. While doing this I also provide guidance so they grow and learn and explore in a safe environment.
Recent studies have been done that show block play contributes to the development of verbal skills. The results of the tests, done with one to two year olds, showed that block play for 15-20 minutes per day, increased the development of verbal skills by 15%.
Pretend play helps children to think of many different ideas instead of just a few. Children also express all kinds of emotions in play (happy, sad, angry, afraid). Play helps children learn to process, manage, and regulate their emotions. Children rehearse different ways of handling problems in play and learn ways to better cope with life’s stressors. And play helps children understand other people’s point of view. It is often said that play is children’s work.
Parallel play is a form of play where children play adjacent to each other, but do not try to influence one another's behavior. Parallel play usually involves two or more children in the same room. The children are interested in the same toys and both see the toy as belonging to them. This is an earlier stage of playing, before children learn to play together.
Parallel play is a form of play where children play adjacent to each other, but do not try to influence one another's behavior. It is important to introduce young children to numbers, shapes, colors, and letters. This can be taught in many ways!
| Introducing your child to art can play a pivotal role in your child's development. Art can help develop a child's creativity, imagination, cognitive skills, problem-solving abilities, fine motor skills, and much more.
The best thing you do to ensure that your child will grow up reading well and loving to read is to read to him/her every day, or let children read to each other to incorporate social and role playing components.
When done right, preschool science is exciting and intellectually meaningful.
The right preschool science activities can: * nurture your child’s natural sense of adventure/curiosity * help your child develop his own understanding of the natural world * encourage your child to be a persistent problem solver * introduce your child to basic elements of scientific reasoning Role playing and other sorts of imaginative games are a vital component of the education of any young child. He or she uses such play time not simply to pass the time, but as a way to understand societal roles, relationships, and his or her place in the world. Key cognitive and communication skills depend upon the ability to successfully role play, so adults should encourage such activities.
